Osmosis: Revision Notes and Practice Quiz

There is no doubt that osmosis is an important process for life. It is how cells get the water they need to carry out chemical reactions.

What is osmosis?

🤔
A process called osmosis occurs when water molecules move across a partially permeable membrane from a region of higher water concentration to a region of lower water concentration.

Partially permeable membranes are just those that have very small holes in them. In fact, they are so small that only tiny molecules (such as water) can pass through them, but bigger molecules (such as sucrose, a sugar) cannot.
